Is a Liquid Facelift right for you?
What is a Liquid Facelift?
As we age, we lose significant amounts of volume in our faces, which makes us appear older and tired. “Liquid facelifts” are a minimally invasive and highly effective way to treat these signs of aging with dermal filler products. By precisely placing small amounts of filler in multiple areas of the face, a balanced approach is taken to facial rejuvenation.
In the upper part of the face, the eye area can benefit from a “lift” to the surrounding facial structures like the cheekbones and brows. A good example of the multiple benefits that a holistic approach that full-face rejuvenation offers, is understanding how adding filler to the cheeks to lift and define cheekbones can also dramatically soften the look of the hollows below the eyes. Adding filler in the brow area can create a lifting effect that also may contribute to a fresh and revitalized appearance.
In the lower half of the face, “laugh lines” can be smoothed with a direct application of filler at the corners of the mouth; however, to treat the full area, it is important to consider the marionette lines that run from sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth as well. Though deep lines here can be a tell-tale sign of aging, this area tends to be overlooked , as traditional beauty treatments like creams and facials have little effect here. Newer beauty treatments, like dermal fillers, give patients a way to address marionette lines and restore a balanced, allover, youthful look.
As an added bonus, dermal fillers have been shown to encourage collagen production which can help boost skin’s elasticity and firmness, giving it a more youthful look and feel.1 This means the treatments can aid with skin texture and tone while they are also augmenting volume and smoothing wrinkles and creases.
Some practitioners will combine the use of dermal fillers along with the use of neuromodulators, like Botox®, that further reduce the sign of wrinkles. As a rule of thumb, fillers restore and build lost volume in the face, while the injectable muscle relaxers reduce excessive muscular mobility and tension, producing a more pleasant and natural expression without being frozen.
The areas your treatment will focus on and the products your provider chooses will depend on the structure of your face, condition of your skin and your treatment goals. Always consult with a qualified practitioner before undergoing any treatment and be sure that you understand the procedure and any risks that might be involved beforehand. When should I consider a liquid facelift?
We believe everyone’s individual aesthetic goals should be first and foremost guided by their own sense of beauty and personal ideals. If your goal is to reduce the signs of aging and restore a more youthful look overall, a liquid facelift might be right for you.
Over time, the aging process causes fat loss in the face. As the face loses fat, the skin can start to sag causing wrinkling and an overall droopier appearance. Dr. Raminder Saluja, a prominent cosmetic surgeon in North Carolina, tells us “Starting in our 30’s, we begin to lose a teaspoon of fat from our face every several years. Initially, we looked more defined, but over time, the volume deficit can lead to midface flattening, descent of tissue and generalized volume deficit.”
At this rate, patients may have lost around 10% of their facial fat by the age of 35 and close to 40% of facial fat by the age of 55.2 This is why most patients may start to notice a difference in their appearance in their mid-thirties but will see even more significant signs of aging as time goes on.
Dr. Saluja says, “In our practice, both males and females opt for the option of soft tissue fillers to help with the signs of facial aging. Artistically injected, fillers can take years off an aged face without distorting the patient’s appearance.”
Liquid facelifts are far less invasive than a surgical treatment and are less expensive and require less downtime. Some physicians suggest that early treatment of the signs of aging can delay or prevent the need for more intensive and costly treatments later on. A “liquid facelift” is selected for the proper candidates. If there is significant drooping of tissues or excessive volume loss, surgery might be a better option.
Alternately, if you are primarily concerned with augmenting a single feature of your face, like adding fullness to lips, a more targeted treatment will probably meet your needs. Targeted treatments can also address specific concerns like filling scars or smoothing out unwanted creases or dimples. The motto of most aesthetic practices is that “good work is not seen.”
In almost all instances, dermal fillers offer instant results that are significantly more noticeable than what traditional topical treatments, like creams and lotions can provide on their own.
How much does a Liquid Facelift cost?
Since the amount of filler varies based on desired patient outcome and volume requirements, there is no exact number for how much a “Liquid Facelift costs”. Treatments where a subtle shift is required could range from $1000 to $2000. Where a more significant volume of filler is required in one or multiple sessions, the cost may range from $3,000 – $7,000. After the initial procedure, establishing a maintenance plan with your provider can help patients maintain and manage results with less intensive and lower cost “refresher” treatments. The frequency and cost of these will be determined by the extent of the treatment, but can range from $600-$2,000 every 6-12 months.
Some fillers offer rewards programs and discounts for repeat customers, so be sure to consider this factor when choosing the filler that is right for you. These savings can reduce the initial cost, as well as lower the cost of maintaining your look over time.
Because of our commitment to volume and fully realized treatment benefits, Revanesse® offers a rewards program for repeat purchases as well as frequent discounts that can be applied to individual treatments. This can be accomplished by downloading the Prollenium® Rewards app, searching for a provider near you, and booking an appointment to get started. Dr. Kian Karimi, a facial plastic surgeon in the Los Angeles notes, “Revanesse® has been the most exciting advancement in facial fillers in nearly a decade and allows us to perform comprehensive volumization of the face to produce a natural and long-lasting result that never appears done or excessive.”
How long will results last?
How long results last depends on the treatment areas, the patient’s goals and the type of dermal fillers used. Most dermal fillers should last for 6 months before a noticeable change in results. Your doctor can help you choose the product that is right for you and your expectations. Ask your provider to suggest a maintenance plan for keeping your fresh new look as a great way to extend the benefit of your initial treatment.
How much downtime does a treatment require?
Since liquid facelifts are based on minimally invasive techniques, like dermal fillers, they require a much shorter amount of downtime than surgical interventions. Depending on the intensity of the treatment and the patient’s individual reactions, downtime can be as little as 1-3 hours. The quick recovery time of this treatment is how it has also earned the nickname “lunchtime facial”. In cases where patients are extra sensitive or have more pronounced swelling or bruising, full recovery may take 2-3 days.
